Paintless Dent Removal was developed in car factories to repair “ding” damage picked up during the build process. This enabled the original paint finish to be kept intact and eliminated the need to use fillers and therefore re-spraying panels. With this system of repair production times and costs were kept to a minimum, without these techniques available it would not have taken long before production was slowed down by the “Hospital Lines”.
A by-product of the “PDR” technique is “Metal Finishing” where by a panel that is stretched too far by the dent can be reshaped, therefore eliminating the use of filler, (something else that helps factories reduce panel replacement and costs).
These techniques were passed onto Motor Manufacturers distribution sites and Import Centres where any damage which was incurred during transportation could be repaired to the new car standard.
During the late 1980’s these PDR techniques were taken in to the retail motor trade and developed to suit the types of dings and dents picked up in daily use (such as “car park” or “supermarket trolley dings”) by the highly skilled technicians who had learnt them over the years.
Over the past decade PDR has grown and rapidly become a recognised repair technique for thousands of customers, particularly car dealerships were they can restore vehicles to their original condition at minimum cost.
